Very nice old Badge Souvenir for the Duke & Duchess of York's 1927 Tour of New Zealand. This is a Tin badge with celluloid cover measuring 1 1/4 inches in diameter. In excellent condition and a somewhat rarer one for Royalty Collectors as the Duke went on to become KING GEORGE VI. In February 1927 the Duke and Duchess of York arrived in Auckland aboard the 'HMS Renown' for a month-long tour of New Zealand. During the 1927 tour the Duke and Duchess traveled extensively throughout the country, although after the Duke was obliged to continue the tour alone after Duchess fell ill with tonsillitis in Nelson. At the time the Duke, Prince Albert, was second in line to the British throne after his brother Prince Edward. Edward abdicated after his accession in 1936 however. Prince Albert then ascended to the throne, and adopted the regal name George VI. The Duke and Duchess of York were the parents of the present queen, Elizabeth II, who was less than a year old at the time of the tour. Albert, George VI, remained King until his death in 1952. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother lived more than a century, dying in 2002 at the age of 101.
