The S.S. DUCHESS OF YORK was built in Glasgow and launched in September 1928 for The Canadian Pacific Steamship Company. She was a 20,021 ton Passenger Liner used primarily on the Liverpool to Canada route. On July 7th 1943 during the World War 11 she was bombed off the Spanish Coast and sunk with the loss of 27 lives. This rather magical little trinket boss is therefore a highly collectible shipping piece dating to the 1930's period. The picture of the Duchess is done using Butterfly Wings and is rather pretty. The Trinket Box has some pitting of the chrome...mainly on the lid, and measures 3 1/2" square and 11/2 "high. In great condition for around 70 years of age.
