Hugo Koblet was a Swiss champion cyclist born in 1925, nicknamed "Pédaleur de charme" (charming pedaler) for his effortless riding style and good looks.
He began his cycling career on the track, consistently winning the Swiss National track pursuit race from 1947 to 1954. In 1950, Koblet rose to international fame by becoming the first non-Italian to win the Giro d'Italia. He continued his success by winning the Tour de France in 1951, defeating cycling legend Fausto Coppi.
Despite his early triumphs, Koblet's performance declined in the latter part of his career, which ended with his retirement in 1958. Sadly, he died in a car accident in 1964 at the age of 39. Koblet's legacy as a cycling icon endures in Switzerland, where he is remembered as one half of the legendary "Two Ks" of Swiss cycling, alongside Ferdi Kübler.
